With over a decade of experience in broadcast journalism, Marquel built her career as a television news reporter, anchor, and producer in southeast Texas and northwest Louisiana. Her tenure in the news industry included high-profile interviews with President George H.W. Bush during recovery efforts after Hurricane Ike, NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal, and Academy Award winner Spike Lee. Marquel’s expertise extends beyond journalism into governmental communications and public affairs. She has served as the Director of Communications for the City of Shreveport and Caddo Parish Public Schools, where she honed her skills in strategic messaging, stakeholder engagement, and public relations.

Marquel Sennet
Founder
Marquel Sennet is the Managing Partner of Essential Communications, a communications consulting firm based in Shreveport, Louisiana, with locations in southeast Texas. A Beaumont, Texas, native, Marquel graduated from Clifton J. Ozen Magnet High School with an academic scholarship to Jarvis Christian College. She became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, through the Zeta Chi Chapter and participated in the prestigious Leadership Fellows program. Marquel earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism with minors in History and Political Science from the University of North Texas. She later received her Master’s Degree in Social Sciences with an emphasis in History from Grambling State University. Marquel’s passion for education and history has led her to impactful roles in academia. She served as the History Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of History at Southern University Shreveport. In Fall 2022, she joined Louisiana State University Shreveport as an Adjunct Instructor, where she developed the innovative course Ethnic Dimensions: Exploring the Cajun & Creole History of Louisiana.
Currently pursuing her PhD in History at the University of Houston, Marquel continues to excel both professionally and academically. Her dedication to leadership and service earned her recognition as a Top 40 Under Forty by the Young Professionals Initiative of Northwest Louisiana. Marquel remains deeply active in her community, frequently lending her expertise as a speaker for nonprofits and organizations throughout Texas and Louisiana. Her storytelling skills have also extended into television production. Marquel was featured on Investigation Discovery’s Murder Chose Me and collaborated with producers of E’s The Bradshaw Bunch to develop a segment for an episode during the show’s second season. Driven by a deep passion for giving back and fostering community growth, Marquel is a member of the Sigma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and the Shreveport (LA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.
